About JKL Home Design

Jill Verhaagh

Jill Verhaagh

Owner. Residential Building Designer.

Cat Mom. Aunt. Book Lover. Yogi. Traveler. Sunshine Seeker.

What I love most about designing homes is fitting all the puzzle pieces together: room placement and traffic flow based on how you really live, your square footage goals, and design style, along with adequate closet space, a home for Grandma's buffet table, window placement for natural light, outdoor living spaces, and random construction considerations (and so many more pieces!). Some designs fall into place pretty easily. Others take a little more patience and a willingness to look at the puzzle from different angles. Either way, bringing it all together is my forte.

I especially enjoy the creative energy of collaboration and the different perspectives everyone brings to the table. Working directly with homeowners and builders means brainstorming ideas, exploring possibilities, and finding inventive solutions to design challenges.

My design journey started with mechanical pencils and graph paper back in the early '90s and eventually led to establishing JKL Home Design in 2021.

This journey included architecture and drafting classes in high school, urban planning courses at UW–Green Bay, and residential architecture studies at NWTC. I also worked on a framing crew to learn firsthand how a house actually gets built. I began my professional career in 2002 designing roof and floor trusses at a local lumberyard, which gave me a solid grounding in structural design. By 2006, I was designing the whole house. Over the years, I've worked directly for local builders, at lumberyards, and as a freelance designer.

Building a home is a big undertaking, and sometimes just getting started can feel overwhelming. My goal is to make the design process comfortable, enjoyable, and stress-free.
